DA KUMILOS PARA PALAKASIN ANG KAMPANYA LABAN SA AGRI GOODS WASTAGES

Sinimulan na ng Department of Agriculture (DA) ang pagsisikap na masiguro na maging zero sa minimal wastages ang Pilipinas sa agricultural commodities. Sa isang pahayag, inanunsyo ng DA na palalakasin ng kagawaran ang ugnayan sa mga industrial buyers para tulungan ang mga agricultural producers na maka-secure ng merkado sa kanilang produksyon. “The Department of Agriculture (DA) is intensifying market linkages through contract farming with hotels, restaurants and other institutional buyers on the procurement of surplus harvests,” ayon sa DA. “The program will be in the form of relevant assistance and interventions seen to facilitate the transport of produce to areas where these are in demand, with zero to minimal wastage and supply of excess agricultural goods,” dagdag ng DA. Ang pahayag ng DA ay kasunod ng ulat ng tomato wastage sa Nueva Vizcaya. “Reports on the dumping of some 500 kilos of small tomatoes, valued at PHP8 to PHP12 per kilogram, from the Nueva Vizcaya Agricultural Trading (NVAT) on January 25, 2023 (are) being looked into by the DA,” ayon sa DA. Sinabi ng NVAT na ang preference ng mga consumers para sa larger tomatoes na binebenta sa kaparehong price range ay maaaring maging dahilan ng usapin. At upang maiwasan ito, binigyang diin ng DA ang pangangailangan para sa sapat na food mobilization strategy. "(This) will be realized through the distribution of delivery trucks and vegetable crates to more farmers’ cooperatives and associations (FCAs) and municipalities under the agency’s Enhanced Kadiwa grant,” ayon sa departamento. Naniniwala ang DA na ang problema sa oversupply ay dapat na "i-minimized" hanggang sa makamit ng pamahalaan ang layunin na tulungan ang mga magsasaka na kumita at tiyakin ang sapat na suplay ng agricultural commodities para sa mga consumers sa merkado.
