Sinabi ni Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Delfin Lorenzana 'trespasser' ang Tsina sa Ayungin Shoal. "Ayungin lies inside our (exclusive economic zone) which we have sovereign rights. Our EEZ was awarded to us by the 1982 (United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea) which China ratified. China should abide by its international obligations that it is part of," ayon kay Lorenzana. "Furthermore, the arbitral award ruled that the territorial claim of China has no historic nor legal basis. Ergo, we can do whatever we want there and it is they who are actually trespassing," dagdag pa nito. Sinabi ni Lorenzana, mayroong dalawang dokumento na nagpapatunay na may sovereignty rights ang bansa sa EEZ, habang ang Tsina ay wala at walang basehan ang claim ng mga ito. Sa isang press conference sa Beijing, binigyang-katwiran ng Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson na si Zhao Lijian ang presensya ng mga tauhan ng China malapit sa barko ng Pilipinas noong Martes na inireklamo ni Lorenzana. Inilarawan ito bilang anyo ng "panakot at panliligalig" ng Tsina sa panahon ng isang resupply mission sa mga grupo ng Pilipino na nakatalaga sa Ayungin. "Ren'ai Jiao is part of China's Nansha Qundao. China demands that the Philippine side honor its commitment and remove its grounded vessel on Ren'ai Jiao. This position remains unchanged. This delivery of food and other supplies is a provisional, special arrangement out of humanitarian considerations," ayon kay Zhao.
